Oh, wow. My first blog. I figured with all the talk about blogging, I’d better get in on the action, especially when I recommend it to my clients to increase their Search Engine Optimization (SEO). ;0)
Ok, so what to talk about …
How about me! Yeah, that’s it. We’ll talk about me.
I’m married to a terrific guy and have been for 20 years now (I was married when I was 10!) ;0) I have three of the most beautiful, talented, intelligent, sweetest children on earth. They are our greatest accomplishments!
Heidi, our oldest, is a rising sophomore at Augusta State University as an English major. Her intent is to become a college professor. Admirable goal, indeed. She’s a blond (ok, now brown-haired) beauty with an infectious personality. Everyone who knows Heidi loves her. She’s such a joy and we’re so proud of her!
Chelsi is our beautiful redhead. She’s a math wiz but wants no part of the math world; her desire is to study photography and/or Art History in college in 2007. In the meantime, she attends one of the best fine arts schools in the country and certainly the best school in Georgia. She’s about to step into the wonderful world of high school seniors with all that entails: senior pictures, graduation announcements, college plans, senioritis, etc. Chelsi is an absolute doll; a joy to be around with a sense of humor comparable to her father’s. I love spending time with her.
Kory, our one and only son, is magnificent! He’s an accomplished musician who plays bass guitar, guitar, piano, drums and anything else he sets his mind to. He plays by ear and has amazing talent! He’s starting high school this year. I can’t believe my baby’s growing up so fast. (Awww, Mom). He, too, is an awesome math and science student; we’ll have to see if he’ll use his talents this year. He certainly ended his middle school years well. I’m so proud to have him for a son. He’s got a HUGE heart and never intentionally hurts anyone, either emotionally or physically (with the rare exception of his sisters, once in a while). ;0)
As you can see, I’m very, very proud of my family. Now I’ve got to tell you about my husband. Rick retired from the Army last year and now works for INSCOM. He’s living in the D.C. area while we’re stuck in Georgia until Chelsi graduates. He commutes home every other weekend and we visit him when we can. As you can imagine, we’re kind of used to living apart with my having been a military spouse for 16 years. Still, we’d like to be together again and we will be soon enough.
What I’m not looking forward to is the cost of living in the D.C. area. Oh boy, is it expensive. I guess I’ve been spoiled by the affordable housing in the Augusta area. I am, however, looking forward to all the things the D.C. area has to offer. It’s so much fun to visit the different attractions such as Ford’s Theater, the many Smithsonian museums, the Washington Mall, etc. If we can afford to live up there, I know we’re going to love it!
Oh, yeah we have five cats. Yes, I said five cats. It’s all my children’s fault. They bring home strays whenever they find them. But now, of course, they are part of the family and I’m Momma to them all.
One more thing … I grew up in the most beautiful place on earth — Southern Oregon. I’ve lived in, and traveled extensively around, Europe and the U.S. but I still think Grants Pass is the most beautiful (with Austria and Southern Germany a close second). I’m sure that a lot of that feeling has to do with sentiment. I just love the area. My family now lives in Eastern Idaho which is where Rick’s family lives too. So we visit when we can and they come out when possible. In fact, my parents should be visiting anytime now.
Ok, well this first post was quite long. But as an introduction, I wanted to let you know about me. I’ll try my best to keep this thing updated but between work, family, home, etc. it might be quite a chore. We’ll see how it goes.
I have to agree that Evy’s kids are the most talented I’ve ever met!! Also, saying that Kory has a big heart is an understatement…Kory is the sweetest kid I’ve ever met. A great testimony to a wonderful set of parents!! The US Army lost a huge asset when Rick retired and Evy and his family left the ranks. She was the type of military spouse we all aspire to be!!! We all love you Evy!!!

Evy,

Welcome to the world of blogging. The site looks great. With your wonderful writing, this will surely be a site to keep visiting. Your kids sound wonderful – I get the sense you’re not even exaggerating about them. Good luck on the last year in Georgia and moving to DC. (And I will have those PDF changes some time in 2006 –

Well Evy, I knew your kids were great:) but I didn’t know you had 4 cats! You remind me of my mom. We all were notorious for bringing in all kinds of strays and who knows what and my mom always had a big heart and would always take them in as well.
It’s been way too long my dear friend. We need to see each other. I’m hoping that one of these years soon we can.
Take care,
De Ann
